NOTICE OF RACE & INVITATION

The SUNDOWNER SERIES is a Monday evening race.  The event is a fun spirited evening with sailboat racing in a friendly environment on the bay. The races start at 6:00 p.m. each Monday night from May 3rd, 2010 thru Sept. 13th, 2010 except Memorial Day (5/31) and Labor Day (9/6). The 18 weeks are split into two 9 week series.

WHOALL PHRF & PORTSMOUTH RATED BOATS. PHRF rated boats should supply their PHRF Rating Certificate with their Entry Form.

WHATFUN RACING!

WHEN:  Monday evenings all summer, except 5/31 & 9/6. The first start gun will be at 6:00 p.m.

WHERE:  Start and Finish will be ¼ mile EAST of the American Legion Yacht Club (ALYC) between “U” MARK and the Race Committee boat.

WHY:  Great racing in the bay. Great fun, food & drinks after the race on our bay view patio (a great place to watch the race!!). Hear the “REAL FACTS” of what happened on the race course. Meet other “GREAT SKIPPERS & CREW”. Trophies will be presented each evening by our fantastic Race
Committee.

HOW:  Race Entry Forms, Sailing Instructions, Safety & Courtesy Tips for Sailboat Racing in Newport Harbor & Course Charts are available at the Legion office or on our web site.  Bring your own boat or help another skipper and enjoy.  We have a hoist and some parking for participants. We also have limited guest dock space, an adjoining public dock and moorings. You may fax your Entry Form and PHRF Rating Certificate to the Legion office at 949-673-9555 before the start of the series. NOTE that the Entry Form has a place that you will sign that states that you received the Safety & Courtesy Tips sheet. The entry fee of $25.00 for all 18 weeks of racing must be received by the Legion office or the Race Committee before you will be allowed to participate.  The Race Committee will call you after receiving both your entry and entry fee to confirm your slot in your class.  Once a class is full the R/C will start a "stand-by" list.  If a boat misses 3 weeks, she will be dropped from her class and the slot will be filled from the "stand-by" list.
